this was in a box with some other cool things out of a old farm house! but i am clueless as to what kind of print it is? the frame and paper backing is definitely old, the paper that it is printed on almost seems like a wax paper or different anyways. and the paint?? is like a powder coating and i dont know if the pics show how its 3d or embossed? did i mention clueless! i seen one kinda like it on ebay and they really did not know what they have, they mentioned block print? if anybody has any idea on this i would love to here what it is and the rarity. i will try to post some of the other things i found in the box. thanks
It looks like it was screen printed. Don't think it's a block print. It's hard to tell from your photos. But the print is awesome! I love it!
This is Wynkin, Blynkin & Nod, an old nursery rhyme made into a Disney animated short in 1938, it was the last of the Silly Symphony series of short animated movies.
It looks like it could be a glow in the dark print. They were first sold in the 40's, usually in pairs. I don't know if the glow can "wear out" or not but you might try to expose it to bright light and then take it in a closet to see if it still works.
thank you i will have to do a little more digging on what to look for close up. i just looked at it under a glass and you can see the parts that are painted are on more of a fabric type like you would paint on all the brown parts that have not been painted are on more of a paper if that makes any sense at all? but if i understand the screen printing process it does make sense, there seems to be very faint paint streaks or lines? would there be to different textures of paper? or am i seeing things?
well if it glowed before it dos not now, i also put it under a black light and it was nothing spectacular but i could see how it might have been glowing at one time
It's hard to say from your description. Wish I could see it! When you mentioned fabric though, made me think screen printing, since the ink goes through silk and takes on a fabric texture.
would it leave like a raised chalky type paint?or powder? thats what the white looks like. i see theres 2 similar ones on ebay now under vintage Disney prints snow white and the other is thumper, one claims to be a block print? and the other says litho. i think you are on track with mine though, i might try to take a closer pic if it works
It's definitely not a litho. You wouldn't see the texture differences in lithography. Not sure how it could be a block print either. But I haven't studied printmaking since college! I think it is possible that the chalky white once glowed in the dark. It would make sense to me that the chemical added to the pigment to make it glow, might with age, flake or dissolve.
