I have had these dolls ince the 1940's. My granfather was a ship captain and brought three sets back from Holland around 1945. I would love to identify them, where they originated, who made them and where I can have the arms reattached and fixed. The legs are wooden and they both walk. R
They appear tp be bisque the arms have fallen off and are cracked. Would like to save the heads befoe they fall inot disrepair. Any sugtgesstions?
These types of novelty dolls were often brought back by service men from overseas to loved ones a Mother , Wife ect . They are most apt to have been made in Germany and imported to Holland. Many dolls coming out of Germany were dressed in ethnic clothes of different countries . It is near impossible to ID what company because so many were making them . But because of laws passed in USA items had to be marked by country of origin starting in about 1920 . I would say they have a mark on them on their backs or behind necks. Maybe just a red stamp . Try to look without hurting their clothes as the name of origin vs not being all original would impact their value if clothes get damaged looking . I would be if I were you be happy to know yes they are from the 40's and appear to made of a composition a light weight one . I can't tell but is arm by feet broke ? If the hooks are still on end of arms they are easily reattached by a doll expert in your area it should not cost much . Do they have keys to wind them ? Are their faces made out of different material than legs and arms ? I can't tell by photo .Very nice dolls and great to treasure since you have a family connection to them makes them priceless to you :-) Thanks for sharing them and welcome to CW !
