I found this bottle and was wondering if anyone could identify it. It has "Not to be refilled No deposit No refund" embossed on the shoulder with "Anchorglass" along the bottom. On the bottom of the glass it had the anchor symbol with an "H" on it (not inside a rectangle). It has the number 5 to the left of the symbol, 8568 above it, 48 to the right of it, and 48X below it. Does anyone know what this is and if it is worth anything at all?
Without a label identifying the brand of beer, this type of bottle has little value. It is from 1948 which was a period when the no deposit no return bottles were extremely popular.
Funny, I just came across several basically identical bottles in the desert recently, although mine are Owens-Illinois bottles from 1948. Bottles such as this have little resale value, but I'm sure it's of interest and value to you, just like my "found" bottles, so you should keep the pup for display. Your Anchor Hocking bottle came from plant #5, the Capstan Glass Co. division in Connellsville, PA. The catalog/model number for that style bottle was 8568, it was made in mold #48X, and dates to 1948 (the right side number). There's a very good chance this was a 1948 Hamm's beer bottle. Type "1949 Hamm's bottle tavern trove" into Google Images to see what the pup likely looked like back in the day. Enjoy!
