What every modernist household needs: herring servers!
Two dishes and serving spoons in the original box. The celluloid top of one box is missing. I'm still at a loss about who designed these early pieces for Stelton.

Stellan + Carton became Stelton in 1960.

Niels Stellan Høm and Carton Madelaire met in the army and began a trading company. They linked up with a firm called Danish Stainlessnin Fårevejle, Denmark and manufactured a gravy boat that sold like hot cakes in the US in the early sixties. An early administrator/designer was Peter Holmblad, whose step-father was Arne Jacobsen. Holmblad joined the company in 1963, I think, as Export Manager. Arne's designs date from 1967, the famous Cylinda-Line.

The forks are marked "Denmark / stainless"
The dishes are marked "stelton / Denmark / stainless / 18/8"

I love this! (as much as I love herrings, specially those in curry sauce!)

Have you or will you ever use this? Can you re-purpose this for some other delicious snack?
I found something that I believe is Stelton yesterday. Will post this afternoon.
HOpe you are doing really well V!

Mnay thanks everyone: AmberRose, BELLIN68, austrohungaro, miKKoChristmas11 & inky too!
They have seen some use, Amber. Herrings and mackerel, anything preserved in oil or brine: rossi e gialli, olives too! They worked well for the modernist "host(ess) with the most(est)" at an impromptu moment or two/three!
      Love that lion!

Many thanks mrmajestic1! And thanks too to you Alberto!
You're right, the design is quite similar to the vassoio "Avio" of Carlo Mazzeri & Anselmo Vitale of 1961. I have a fondness of Alessi unlike austrohungaro!
    7. austrohungaro austrohungaro, 12 years ago
Well, I have to say, Alessi from the 80s and later I don't quite like (there's the occasional nice item from time to time though), but I do like their previous designs, much in the fashion of the time, like Alfra or Avio, specially Avio :)
    8. vetraio50 vetraio50, 12 years ago
On the point of Alfra. I know it's a composite of Fra(telli) Al(essi).
      Is Avio something similar?
