Pictured are 4 different Howel's Rootbeer bottles I saved from ye olde bottle pit. The oldest is to the left from the 1930's. It has the old label on front with the bottling company name at bottom of label. This is a 12 oz. Duraglas bottle and it was bottled by Big 4 Bottling Co., Austin, Minn.
The other three are all 12 oz made by Ball Glass and the label on the reverse depicts the bottling companies. One is 1944 Howel's Beverage Co., South Bend, Indiana. One is 1945 Howel's Root Beer Bottling Co., Decatur, Illinois. And the third is 1946 Howel's Beverage Co., Chicago / Peoria / South Bend. Howel's Root Beer was available in bottles from the early 1920's to the late 1940's. The root beer formula was sold to A&W Rootbeer Co. in the 1950's. Howell was also known for inventing Orange Crush soda.
