I recently picked up a very rare Zenith ZX-5 military radio. This was the last one to use the transoceanic chassis. In this case it used a 3000 series chassis but if you look at the insides it's a different as different can get.
It still uses a rotating drum to change the bands but is AM, FM, and CW with a BFO only.
It comes with it's original antenna pack and two antennas. One military flat and one 9 foot folding whip. Two original manuals and the battery eliminator power supply. As it states in the manual this is a highly modified Royal 3000 capabale of Am reception from 0.54 to 200Mc and Fm reception from 20 to 200Mc over 10 bands. AFC on the two highest bands and a beat frequency oscillator for CW and limited SSB reception. Parts are treated against moisture and fungus. It will run on C or D cells or the optional AC power pack. Hard to believe but it works perfectly. Assembled in 1964 it originally came with a tape recorder, mic, foot switch, external speaker, headphones and assorted patch cables. These are all missing as is the battery pack. I suppose someone had left batteries in them an they got ruined. You can see it discussed here along with the 1000M

Looks almost brand new! Very nice! I did communications on submarines for 21 years, and love the older radios!
