At the wild Brimfield Antique show a few weeks back, I stumbled upon a booth with a huge box filled with old matchbooks and matchbox covers. I had also recently come across this amazing selection of Japanese matchbox labels on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maraid/sets/72157604922299315
and so was surprised to find a couple of Japanese boxes in the random mix of mostly American ones at Brimfield.
These three were my favorite - mostly for their lovely graphics. Their backsides are plain blue paper.
Does anyone know anything about the places they advertise, or can you read Japanese and tell me what the mystery text says? I'm assuming they're from the postwar era, and judging from the "Misawa Officer's Mess" not that far from the occupation period...
*** Updated info via scandinavian_pieces' friend Mami ***
The first striped box is from a luxury restaurant called "KAPPO," the second one is for "KOIZUMI CLOTHES SHOP" and lists the shop's address in Tokyo, the third is for "MISAWA SHAKO CLUB," which was a social club with bar girls or escorts.
