Everybody should remember these from the late 1960's early 1970's. The pain was unforgettable. Clackers, also known as Ker-Bangers or Click Clacks were 2 acrylic plastic balls about 5cm in diameter suspended on heavy string cord. Holding the string at the knot with your thumb and a finger and moving your hand up and down would make the balls swing apart and together making the "clacking" noise. Swinging them very quickly and you could get them to clack below your hand and also above.
Clackers were discontinued in the mid-70's due to numerous injuries reported. Occasionally the balls were known to shatter. Mine never did but I sure had serious forearm and wrist bruises when those balls would slam into my bones. They were resurrected and released again in the 1990's in bright neon colors.
