The front of this fob is marked: Alcatraz Island & the back is marked: Alcatraz Island Carpenter Shop Electric Chair.
Neat fob, but this could never have happen at Alcatraz. Even though Alcatraz Island has opperated as an area to hold prisoners since 1859 and by 1912 the army had built the largest reinforced concrete structure in the world (Hauck), actually built by the prisoners to house themselves, and opperated as a prison until 1963 there never was an electric chair at Alcatraz. There never was an execution at Alcatraz. There were 5 suicides, & 8 murders during its Federal Prison days.
All California executions for male prisoners have been done at San Quentin Prison, the oldest prison in California, built in 1852. It also never had an electric chair. Between 1893 and 1937 there were 215 executions by hanging. After 1937 the Gas Chamber was installed and 196 were executed by this form. In 1995 the Gas Chamber was ruled "cruel & unusual punishment" and lethal injections were introduced.
Although this fob is not accurate it is still an interesting piece.
Also a photo of Alcatraz Island & an electric chair.
Thanks for looking,

    Thanks Kerry.
I'm not sure when or by whom it was made, but when I saw it, I had to have it. I have toured Alcatraz Island several times and it's a creepy place. One visit, years ago the tour guide we had was a retired prison guard from there. His storries were amazing. I wish I could have recorded it.
    Thanks for looking.
