I have always loved Czech Aventurine, whether it be Rindskopf, Reidel, Harrach, Kralik or Loetz. But I never thought I would find a deliberate attempt by one company to echo another to the point of becoming undistinguishable. A couple of years ago I bought a vase in coral red with a pontil. I had no doubt it was a new Rindskopf color. But a few days ago, to my everlasting surprise, I found a matching inkwell. I already had noticed my vase's suspicious similarity to a well documented Kralik shape, and so had my friend Craig Orkney. It is also documented that Kralik was the big inkwell maker of the period. Craig prepared a comparison collage. My inkwell matched other Kralik inkwells in both shape and top. The vase matched other Kralik vases.
I have always stressed reliance on one's eyes, not books. If you take a look at my website, there is a whole page on identifying Kralik by shape.
