I have my father's Hollander catchers mitt C1016 & I have no interest in selling it so I have no interest in an evaluation. I think that it's about 65 years old and it's in fabulous condition. Does anyone know how old it is? What is the best way to perserve it? What is the best way to display it?

    Thanks!

Saddle soap is good to keep it soft . Can you take a photo of otherside to show if it is a single or double hinge glove ? to date it . Very nice to have from your Dad . I would cherish it also .

I just uploaded a photo of the other side of the mitt. Any ideas on the best way to display the mitt?

It has a double hinge so it dates back to 70's or older . What is writing on the side you just posted ? Your Dads name ?

The mitt is from the 40s; we just don't know the exact date. In the centre of the mitt it says "Deep Pocket". Near the bottom it says "C1016 Full Grain Leather Japan". On one side is says "Hollander Line". On the other side it says ______ League" - the name of the league is worn away.

Are you in Japan ? I will let someone else take over it does not look that old and if it is it is preserved. I will let someone else take over from here I addressed the saddle soap , But I have to admit never saw a mitt look this good that old so your doing something right to it . How do you date it ? Are you asking what exact year ? USA was not using gloves from Japan in 40's that I am aware of as we were at war with them ?

I am Canadian. The mitt was purchased in Montreal. My father is alive and he is aware of when he bought it and used it. It was approximately 65 years ago; we are just not sure of the exact date.

Ok that makes more sense I always forget that people from all over the world is on site . Canada most certainly would likely have got gloves from Japan vs USA :-) I am baffled as many of my ancestors passed things down to me from Cananda and they are always so well preserved . It has to be the air there . Your glove is in amazing condition . Did your Dad belong to a baseball team ?

He did and they played against teams in Montreal and against teams in neighboring cities. I'm going to ask him if he remembers the name of the league.
