This handsome bird, a Pouter Pigeon, was designed and executed by famed Art Deco sculptor MAURICE FAURE and produced by the French Majolica company FRIE-ONNAING. The company was in production from 1824-1947. Yet it is very rare to find Art Deco items. The item is is signed by the artist, company and country of origin.
I love the pigeon's architectural qualities.
FRIE-ONNAING is mostly known and valued today for their Art Nouveau pitchers. One, with which, you might be familiar with is the frequently faked, Maitre D pig waiter. A bulldog pitcher recently sold for $3,200.
