Lately we've had mustache mugs on the brain, I think because two of my colleagues ran across one at Brimfield. Coincidentally, I came across this matchbook from Cavanagh's in New York City, which touts its mustache mug as "The zenith of refined elegance" (the engraving, we are informed, is by John Held, Jr.). The mug the gentleman is holding bears the word "Daddy" on the side, and the inside of the cover proclaims that Cavanagh's is an establishment "Where elegance in dining has been a tradition since 1876."
According to this page below, that claim is not precisely accurate, and by the time my grandfather picked up these matches after dining there one night in the late 1940s, early 1950s, it was still probably gilding the lily. But the green match tips are a nice touch, right?
