This is Cook Book from 1927 published by House of Gurney Seed & Nursery Co. - paperback, staple bound, 96 pages, very good condition.
House of Gurney was established in 1866 as Hesperian Nurseries by Charles Gurney, a retire Lt. Col. during the American Civil War. In 1897, he moved the business to Yankton, S. Dakota to take advantage of the nearby waterways. In 1906, the business was incorporated as Gurney's Seed & Nursery Co. By 1924, the Gurney Seed House was one of the largest in the world, receiving orders from 46 of the 48 states and many foreign countries. In 1925, one of his 5 sons, John Chandler Gurney, became a well-known radio announcer for Yankton radio station WNAX - In 1927, he convinced his father to buy the station and it was then used to promote Gurney's products & services. John Chandler Gurney later served as a U.s. Senator for the state of S. Dakota from 1939-1951. The business is still thriving to this day.
