If I got my family story right, this staff was made for my Grandpa, who was a minister and his family (my great-grandparents) were missionaries in Nigeria in the early 20th century. My Grandpa went back to Nigeria in 1990 to see the church that his father helped build. I have never seen one another like it, it is about 4 feet tall and made of one piece of wood. Completely hand-painted!
