This is a complete set of the date nails used by the Western Maryland Railway Co. and also shows one of the WM RY Co. Hubbard nails (a rare nail).
Actually, there is one more date nail I forgot to put in when taking the pic. For only one year the date nails (forgot which one) had two different nails made/used. These two different types have the same date on them, but the fonts are slightly different.
The unusual thing about these nails is that they were hammered into the ends (end grain) of the ties, horizontal to the ground instead of perpendicular to it. I think this is the only RR that did this.
They date nails also are a smaller size than typical date nails. Ironically the Hubbard nail is the larger size of Hubbard!
