So many early Phildelphia retail establishments have closed leaving nothing but memories. J E Caldwell was at its last Chestnut Street location since 1916 and supplied Philadelians with lovely jewelry from the early 19th century. I found my china there and the only watch bands I really liked. It was a beautiful store.
Came across this sweet mid-century ring box and thought I would share it - and Caldwell memories - with you.
Fortunately, a local jewelry concern bought the rights to the name and J E Caldwell lives on at Philadelphia's Jewelers' Row about where it started. Offered there are some of the most exquisite antique jewelry I've seen in ages. Caldwell's was known in the 20s for its Art Noueau and Deco jewelry and there you can find most beautiful examples.
