Anouther one bites the dust! The Southwest Porcelain Co. of Sand Springs closed its doors some time back. The S P S (Southwest Porcelain Steel) is what you see on some of the signs that they have produced over the years. I was lucky enough to know the general manager, who was in charge of auctioning of the equipment a few years ago. He took me through the plant & when we got to the Shipping/ inventory building i was nosing around when i stumbled upon a couple of wood framed, cardboard containers.I asked him what was in them ,he shrugged & said "open them & see" Long story short, thats how i ended up with my Chevrolet Genuine Parts & Gibble Gas porcelain signs.Anyway, the sign at the front gate is all that still remains of this iconic company. Picts.#234 are the empty lot, after the clean-up.

I realize this is old but wondered if any of the building is still standing? My dad, Herbert Randall, started work here in late 1950's and worked there until 1966 and then returned for a number of years in 1975. He was the color control chemist and trained under George Foesee (sp). Mixed the colors for all the porcelain signs.
