This is a Stanton phonograph stylus cartridge metal box. Forgot what this was til I looked it up. It used to have a protective sponge cut-out for holding the cartridge securely. Stanton Magnetics Company was founded in 1946 by Walter Stanton, the inventor of an easily replaceable phonograph stylus (needle) which paved the way for a vast influx of home entertainment equipment options. The box is made of aluminum and has a nicely embossed 'S' logo and the name Stanton in block letters.
It measures 3 3/8" x 3" x 1" high with a full hinged lid.
