I would think that it was a wedding keepsake-- given out to guests at the reception.
Could have been intended for use as a trinket tray or possibly an ashtray (can't tell from images).

It's a copper plaque for printing announcements invitations etc. This is what Queen Elizabeth had used for her invites etc. It was the most expensive process of printing at the time. The plate would be dipped in ink, wiped clean and then pressed hard against soft high quality paper of it's time. You had to be of means of course to have these even back in the early 1900's. I have one from 1916, it's very rare for that time period.
