This vase was brought to my attention by my friend Patti, and at first I thought a kind of Loetz Ausf: the glossy luster (Pic. 1), the contrasting decoration in a distinctive "toffee" color (pic. 2), the polished pontil, and the piece's overall quality.

It is not more than 4.5" tall and 6" in diameter. I usually do not go for small bowls (unless I plan to use them as pencil holders), but the price was right.

And then I remembered a similar color combination. Right on the wall on back of my desk, where I keep a motley variety of what I think my best piecs are. Pic. 4 shows two vases in subtly iridescent green, with what been called "scalloped", tadpole" or "claw" decor. The tallest shows three in the same shade of yellow as my new vase. The other has them in electric blue.

Then, why not Rindskopf either, since it shows what someone might call a serpent. Well, I have seen their heads on Harrach, Loetz and Rindskopf, but NEVER on Kralik corded pieces!

My little new vase thus has family members waiting for it in my collection! In collecting Czech glass, it is best to go for quality, not for manufacture.
