I BOUGHT THIS AT THE FLEA MARKET TODAY BECAUSE IT'S THE FIRST TIME I'VE SEEN ONE OF THESE TINS WITH THE SLIDER COMPARTMENT ON THE BOTTOM. I'D GUESS THE COMPARTMENT IS FOR MATCHES, NOT FOR SURE.THE ORIGINAL PRICE TAG FROM A REXALL DRUG STORE FOR 19 CENTS IS STILL ATTACHED. NO IDEA AS TO AGE BECAUSE THE TAX STAMP IS REMOVED. JUST LIKED IT WHEN I SAW IT.

Yes the compartment was for matches (notice the ridges on the sides for striking).
Hard to date but you do have the one without the net wt marking underneath the word Tobacco. You see a lot of these tins out there available but rarely with the matches compartment.
