This little treasure is a find from a local used goods shop. It was tucked away within the mounds of loose ceramics & glassware.
The goblet is cut crystal, which is a beautifully rich ruby/blood red, with hand painted gold and silver decoration & highlights. The scene on the front is a religious scene (possibly of the Nativity), and is made of built up layers of silver & gold, it has thickness & depth. On the back, in gold once again, are painted the words Inadenaltar zu Maria ?ell?, in a wonderful artful handwriting. I haven't polished off the tarnish from the silver to witness the picture in it's shining glory, as that is a no-no that I know too well. The bottom has a star pattern cut into it. The condition is wonderful, no chips or chinks, just wear on the bottom & the rim gold from it's long life.
