Astroman
Made By Dux - 1960 - West Germany
This robot was first issued in 1959. The original one, only 200 were made, was designed so kids could take him apart and rebuilt him. The body consisted out of plastic and the motor was just a regular wind-up. In 1960 this robot appeared at the Toy Fair in Nürnberg and was a complete flop. It was too expensive and too complex.
Later the designer made this version which was a hit. This robot is controlled by a remote control which allows the robot to walk, to bend, to move his arms and even to grab things. The head of the Astroman is also special, keep in mind it is from the sixties, it glows in the dark!!! Because the outside of the robot is made in plastic you can imagine that he is very fragile and not a lot survived when given into children's hands. :). To top this robot off he was given a box with a most wonderfulf artwork!
Note: The Antenna is original but it has a broken piece (the top is missing).
