We own several rental propertys in our erea, several are three, four-bedroom homes. It's hard to tell who will stay, who will pay,or who will hit the road, usually with a dirty, damaged, home. You hear all kinds of sad stories, and you do want to believe that these people are sincere. Some are, many are not. What's even more strange is what the people did leave you holding the bag take, and what they leave behind. I've seen this for many years and one thing that they leave is bewildering. Seems they always leave their dirty clothes most of their kitchenware,, and their family heirlooms. These two chests are such a case. I'm sure these cases any other items they left would add up to $1200 but after taking them home and living the wife pilfer through them for two days to send to ease some of the financial pain. I'm really big on family heirlooms and would've gladly gave these back to the tenants, but as usual, they were never heard from again.

Thanks mikie. I love your variety of items -- great to see different unique things. As for those trunks the top one would be easy to refinish and nice that the leather straps are still there. The corners have a special three leaf clover design that I have not seen before. There has to be some Irish connection to that one. Is there a label on it? You have the lucky trunk my friend!

I think that you would be surprised how easily they refinish. More patience and attention to detail than anything. Both would look great restored. Good luck

Thank u boonsborotrunks for your comm. Ive found a large piece of saftyglass that would leave a nice overhang around the edges. Think i might try to restore one off these. Thanks again . Mikie

The top one is a Hartmann, the three leave clover used to be their distinctive logo. Rare trunk, around 1900. There are more Hartmann's to be found, post-1920, mostly wardrobes, or the current range of travel goods (one of a few past trunkmakers that made into the 21st century by adapting to modern times requirements and fashion)
