On this the 4th of July I decided to go through a photo album my uncle had of his service in WWII. Unfortunately, he only marked a few of the photos on the back. Here's the first of a few photos I will show.
SORRY 4th PHOTO ended up being 1st.
1st photo: a photo of my uncle behind his jeep.
2nd photo: Unmarked photo of two supply clerks. The left side tall stack of boxes, the 6th one down from the top, the print reads:
24-12 OZ. BOTTLES HYDE PARK BEER
WITHDRAWN FREE OF INTERNAL
REVENUE TAX FOR DEPORTATION
BY HYDE PARK BOTTLERS ASSOCIATION, INC.
ST. LOUIS, MO. B STREET NO. 11
3rd photo: (written on back): Taken in Wakayama. I often marvel at this. Everything is bombed flat for a mile around, and this Red Cross hospital stands all by it self.
(on-line I read where 50% of Wakayama City, Japan was destroyed in 1945.)
4th photo: (written on back): This was taken in Osaka in the heart of the city. You can see there wasn't much left. Most of the buildings were 7 and 8 stories in this part of the city.
Taken from the 7th floor of Red Cross building. (SORRY 4th PHOTO ended up being 1st.)(can't seem to move it)
Thanks for looking, (more to follow)
