My husband's grandmother passed away a couple of years ago and we recently received several items of red glassware. They're very pretty. I am really partial to the red glass. It measures about 4-1/4" tall and a little less than 4" at it's widest point; clear applied handle.

After looking through some antique shops and doing some internet seaches I'm thinking this may be hand-blown Pilgrim glass ?

purpledog, educate me please. Is there a difference between "Cranberry" and "Ruby" glass or they the same family. My mother collects, what she calls "Ruby" and was just wondering. Thanks, Kerry

Hi kerry10456. I am just learning about art glass and have been doing a little research on the subject - most of it on the internet and some in antique shops. From what I can tell they may be interchangeable terms to some people but I suspect they may be two different types of glass. How's that for "clear as mud"? :) I've seen a lot of Ruby glass lately in antique shops but I noticed it wasn't hand-blown. The Pilgrim Art Glass that I found was called Cranberry and it was hand-blown. Here is a link that may help. I'm still doing some research and will post more soon. I'm sure there are people on here who are true experts on the subject but I haven't received any info from them yet.

Your welcome. And thank you for the response. I'll try to keep abreast of this posting and maybe we will clear up the mud. LOL Thanks again. :-)

Hi kerry10456. I spoke briefly with the owner of an antique shop today. Apparently, the only difference is the color. Ruby glass is a brighter, deeper red (like this little pitcher) and the cranberry is more washed out looking. This happens to be pilgrim glass in the ruby color. Sometimes things are simpler than I make them.

I noticed several items on Ebay where the words cranberry and ruby both appeared in the same title listing. This led me to believe that there was no difference. (I'm sure the sellers did that so their item would turn up in more search results. We had an Ebay store for years (coins, coin supplies) and we added all kinds of descriptive words to increase traffic to our store. For example, paper coin wrappers would be listed as "paper coin tubes wrappers" .

Sorry to be so verbose! Ask a simple question and I'll write a novel. That's primarily because I don't know what I'm talking about :) Thanks!!

I'm just learning little by little. Someone may come along and post that I'm completely wrong. That's ok cause I want the correct answers. Thanks again.

Could be Blenko,Kanawa, or Rainbow.Pilgrim has a strawberry shaped impression on the bottom so we can at least rule that one out:)
