One of the most common and least appreciated items in Loetz production is found in the back of Ricke 1 (pic. 1), where there is a period picture of a series of tableware pieces in clear crackle glass, mostly jugs. They are by now widely attributed to Kolo Moser. However, it is well known also that other companies produced them (see the corresponding page on my website).
I have found them in several colors and two sizes (pic. 2). Their distinctive characteristic is the hollow handle, which fills with liquid for a stunning effect (also impractical--who wants wine or beer warmed by the hand touching the handle?). Some exhibit polished pontils, and some do not have hollow handles.
So, even though I own several, I was totally unprepared for this surprise from Canada: a 4.25"/10.8 cm. miniature jug in the by now familiar crackle pattern! It may not turn the heads of Loetzmaniacs, but it really interests me.
By now it is a fact that Loetz and the other Czech manufacturers, along with their coveted art glass production, filled the market with glass products for everyday use, particularly tableware. Useful and beautiful, that is my mantra. Here is this little Loetz jug as a prime example.

The little crackle mugs are great ... Pimms, juice, you name it.
Don't forget Sangria! I love these jugs too, and I'm tempted to bid every time I see one that is a little bit different. Indeed, very useful.
