This is a collage of photos taken from a scrapbook of my Great Great Great Great Grandfather of artwork he did as an advertising illustrator of food products in the 1860's. He was apparently not a very successful artist and died poor as far as we can tell but he was an amazing artist! I don't know how many of these actually made it to cans, etc, but we have all the beginning sketches, tracing paper, etc. for a lot of them. These were beautifully kept and the colors are still amazing. I made them into a collage (photos, not originals!) so you could see all of them at once. If anyone knows anything more about this artist it would be wonderful to know more.
I am including the info I know about him below and the genealogy. I have looked up most of these company names and there is a great deal of history behind them all, all of them legitimate companies in the Baltimore and surrounding areas. Enjoy!!
(1810-1884)
Born in Philadelphia in 1810. Moved to Baltimore in 1844.
Listed as an engraver/guilder for the Baltimore City Directory. The Maryland Historical Society lists him as being an illustrator of food products in 1867. His son Harry was also an artist.
Samuel Oliver
(1810-1884)
Samual was Married to Mary A Lucas
They had 2 Children:
Sam Jr. & Mary Emily
In case you are wondering, yes, the originals are stored properly in acid free paper etc. and wrapped in the proper archival materials. They are kept in a cool dark spot. My mom is a curator they will be well taken care of! A real treasure!

Wonderful images, some of them would make lovely wall art if enlarged.
Samuel Oliver and Mary Ann Lucas are in the Pennsylvania, Church and Town Records, 1708-1985 on ancestry.com, but I don't have access to open it. Hope this helps.
I would like to talk to you about getting copies of your photographs of these labels and some information if possible! I can provide my email.
