So, what was it that made you start collecting art glass? Was it a book; such as "Miller's Art Glass; HOW TO COMPARE AND VALUE" (Louise Luther, 2002)? Well, in that very book I read about an item that was so rare that there was suposedly only four known in the entire world (see "Consolidated Glass Company", page 39). Well, this is at least number five, and I have research indicating at least seven examples, including the ones in Bostons' Museum of Fine Arts and Denvers' Kirkland Museum (both highly recommended, so please go see them if you are in Boston or Denver). My example was found in Texas, and has the IDENTICAL stand as in Boston's MFA. I also had another one (believe it or not, but it's true) and it was from Florida. It wasn't as good as this one so I sold it - with a different "questionable" stand. The point is that the books aren't always 100% accurate, although Louise did mention a fifth fishbowl might be out there. I found #5, #6, and I think #7 too. If anyone is interested in this story - I have complete documentation including video staring yours truely - please let me know. It is a Ruba Rombic riddle that is ready to be revealed! How about you, Louise?

Congrats!!
AWESOME!! I agree the books aren't always right nor are articles. I have an original self portrait done by a well known artist in NZ and they continue to write how she NEVER does self-portraits. Well it's sitting in my lounge so they got that wrong!
What a teeeeze!
Thanks for showing us this museum piece!
Love the linear glow too!
Can I just ask about the dimensions?
Wow! I never knew that this came in a fishbowl! Wow.
Dimensions? The bowl is 8-1/2" tall by about 14" at the widest (hard to measure an irregular shape like this). The stand is 24" tall, so the combination is a little over 32" high. The glass is uranium/vaseline, which is shown with the blacklight (photos 3-4). The fishbowls were made by Phoenix Glass Company (not Consolidated) and the bowl is fully signed, and marked with the patent number. Thanks! Dan
The HOLY GRAIL right there...This is the piece I always have an eye out for but never expect to see.VERY nice !!!
Yes; it glows in the dark with unearthly radience. (We don't need it; because we've already got one!) I have actually called it "the Holy Grail of art glass collecting". I didn't ever expect to see one myself, but in 2010 there were not one, not even two, but THREE different fishbowls on ebay. I had two but sold the "inferior" example, so there were NO NO, FOUR! auctions for three different bowls, and there were only supposed to be four in the entire world! Well, I count seven, and who knows, you might find #8 so keep looking. Won't help my bottom line, but oh well!
I would love to own this piece...
hi i got a black ruba rombic vase this summer 9 1/2 in. its beautiful. do you have any other ruba rombic? do you have any idea how much mine would be worth? i am looking for a smaller vase too. that is amazing you found two fish bowls!!! i would like to see the video!!
Hello bigjimsportscamper, I don't have any other Ruba Rombic right now; and no, I do not know what your vase is worth. You can get an account on liveauctioneers.com, and search through their "sold" items. That's a good place to start. I am working on the video now. Thanks!
Stunning piece, collector here of Ruba Rombic and many other deco glass lines. From my calculations the number is closer to 20-30 known examples, not all with stands. Dasullywon if you would like feel free to contact me joshrbair@gmail.com. Bigjimsportscamper be glad to help you on a value as well
