This copper double wall oven measures 7"h x 8"d x 9.5"w and has 2 shelves. The 2 large holes in the center top lead onto the interior. The two smaller holes at the rear corners lead into the double walls of the unit. A brass plate reads"E.H. Sargant & Co Est 1852 Chicago IL" . weight 8 lbs. Very nice copper patina outside,bright copper inside.
Purchased at St Marys College San Antonio Tx. They were cleaning out a basement storage area which was full of old stuff like this. Much old scientific/lab / elecrical/ too much to list.

Hello,
My best guess is that this is a Bacteriological Incubator, look up Incubator on wikipedia to see modern ones. The two top tubes were connected to a forced air heater, there was probably a thermometer attached to the incubator somewhere either in the piping or on the box somewhere.
As to age it could dat anywhere from about 1910 to 1930s, by then there would have been more "modern" devices with more precise controls. Hope this helps.
