These studs were engraved on 1888 seated liberty quarters. The initials "JR" are engraved on each stud surrounded picks, shovels, and other intricately engraved greenery. The three ovals at the top signify the Odd Fellows Lodge. (The subject matter appears to be mining.) I used my brilliant powers of deduction to gather that from the shovels and picks :) The stud attachment on the reverse of one is obviously a newer attachment. Apparently, one broke and was repaired with a philips head screw. I tried to remove it because it's not original and it doesn't add anything now. It's really stuck so I decided to leave it alone.
I've purchased and sold hundreds of nice tokens but I usually go for full names or titles, such as Mama, Papa, Sally, Minnie, etc. They sell better. These were rather unique so I bought them. I have sold almost all now but I doubt these will sell for what I paid. Live and learn, huh!? :) At least the design is pleasant and the engraving is very nicely done.
