Super Chief Illuminated Hood Ornament With Box

Amazing, copyright 1950, illuminated Indian Super-Chief car mascot. Made presumably for a Pontiac, hence the Indian theme. It comes in its original box and has never been used! The box describes it as "beautiful plastic and brilliant chrome, hood and radiator ornament". Made by Blackstone Mfg. Co. Chicago. The mascot measures 4.5 inches by 4.5 (11cm). Condition is as new The box has slight age wear but still in good condition. No damage to item itself. Includes lighting unit, mounting instructions and screws.

yea, Pontiac did support the indian/headdress hood ornament theme, but, this isnt O.E.M. or anything close! & its not an aftermerket fenderlight for an Indian scooter .I think i see wires, so i assume the headdress? lights up? No sign of a date? It is cool & a box is always a+.

I had previously seen the youtube, too bad it was done by the village idiot !!
Thanks Manikin, and Mikie don't get too worried about OEM!!! - If you
look I put nothing about OEM on the posting, so keep your shorts on! ~ Phil.

I saw this on TV, also! I think the expert said it was worth about $1,000 and that one didn't have the box!

There are several on ebay right now and you really have to know your stuff here. They were re-produced!

Mine seems to have the original box, and serial part number, the box is far from perfect, and it sure looks good however. Thanks Vintage station and Manikin, Bellini, Toolate 2, lundy !~

I just got this in the mail today -- It was an old box that comes from being stored for over 40 years and you cannot fake that - I have a lot of experience in old items and this piece definitely is. But since it has no water damage whatsoever the piece is in pristine condition. Now this is amazing, because I could not be happier. This is the real deal !!~Phil

The piece is fully marked, copyright 1950, with the Chicago manufacturing company that made it, it is an awesome piece, and I do have it lit up at night for some spectacular night effects.

You have a great collection happening here. Several "GREAT" pieces and appears to be shaping up nicely. Congrats on all the great finds. Hope to be seeing more. Good Luck hunting.

Thanks kerry, for the love, the collection is going nicely for what it is and the fact that I rather started so late collecting this. So I will never get a lot of really good pieces now, but each one that is superior will be much cherished, though for a cost !~ All I can think about doing is keeping my collection for the rare, more exciting pieces that I will really love.

Hey I saw this on American Pickers, he brought it to a museum or exhibition or something
  19. PhilDavidAlexanderMorris PhilDavidAlexanderMorris, 5 months ago
I don't think it was american pickers, it was storage wars, and hester brought it to a museum, probably planted in the locker !~

    Hi Phil
I think that this piece also 'trades' on the Santa fe Railway's Super Chief train - often branded the 'Train of the Stars' because it carried so many of them between LA and Chicago in the 1930s, 40s and 50s. They used the Southwest native American theme extensively, but also used the 'Indian head' in various guises as a logo too - and the famous paint scheme of the Passenger locos was the 'warbonnet' theme in black, red and yellow, which this great piece follows. The Sante Fe marketed aggressively through the 40s and 50s and this scheme and logo was known across the USA as a result. Maybe it was designed for all those frustrated loco engineers/drivers behind the wheels of their cars? :-)
    It's a thought!

Possibly - the indian was very popular in France also, with many interpretations.
This one you may find with the box as I know there were many found in a warehouse at one point, with all the correct marks and words on piece. PS. the book by Dan Smith is wonderful also.

Thank you Tallsteve for the love and comment, have to admit there are so many things that were popular then but not so much now. People who are not collectors largely forget maybe :)
