The September 13, 1962 issue of the "Sentinel" official class 2 Air Force Newspaper published weekly by and for the personnel of Laon Air Base 66th Tactical Recon Wing commemorating the Fifteenth Anniversary of the United States Air Force. Pictured on the cover photo is the USAF Thor-Able Star Satellite Launching Vehicle seconds before lift-off, the 2000 mph Reconnaisance Strike RS-70, General Henry "Hap" Arnold, General William Mitchell, Captain Eddie Rickenbacker (America's ace-of-aces, who scored 26 aerial victories in World War I) and Lt. G.W. Goddard. Although the Aeronautical Division was activated in 1907, it was a part of the U.S. Army until the National Security Act of 1947 (Public Law 253, 80th Congrees) henceforth the Air Force came into legal being on September 18, 1947.
