My father in law purchased this desk at a garage sale for $15.00. He was going to try to re sell it but I decided I wanted it for my daughter to use as a homework desk. I am going to clean it up and re finish it. I have done a lot of Google searching but couldn't really find any information on it. The only marking is the "A" on the back (shown in the picture). I did learn that this type of desk was not popular with the drawer underneath because the kids had to get up to open the drawer and it was too disruptive in class. I am very curious to know an approximate year of the desk and manufacturer. Thank you for your time.

Your desk is from the 1940s or 1950s and was probably made by the American Seating Company.
I would lean in the 40s. My grade school had these. Didn't have the drawer under seat, but under the top desk. For note pads, pencil's ect...
FYI, Back then if U got in trouble the teacher took us down to the boiler room.

I do not believe that drawer goes with that desk. The desk is fabricated with bent plywood. The drawer is solid. There are no support rails in the desk to support the drawer. The drawer hangs over the back of the desk...no furniture maker in the world would do that. It simply doesn't add up.

We had thes e when I went to school ( we also had hammers and chisles for our rock tablets kids ) there were no drawers, you simply kept you stuff under the seat...
My mother-inlaw just bought a desk at a yard sale the other day. I took all the info off of it, it's from the American Seating Company. There is a stamp of the side that says Envoy #13. It looks to be the size of a kindegartener or a first graders. It's metal with a wood seat and slats on the back, the desk part has a pencil holder across the top. It also has a slot under the seat that books would have been put in. It has some rust I think it could be cleaned up, does anyone have any idea what it might be worth. Thank you
