    Hello,
I bought this beer stein at an estate sale. I am currently not working and am wondering if this beer stein is of any value to sell. Any idea how old this stein is or who made it? The stein without the lid is 5 inches tall and with lid is 6 3/4 inches tall. On the bottom of the stein it is imprinted GERMANY. The imprint is into the actual stein, no ink on the bottom at all. I would include pic of imprint, but this site only allows 4 pictures per post. Also, as you can see in two of the pictures, there are numbers on the stein. On the inside of the stein, it is a solid ivory color. Thank you very much for your opinion.

**UPDATE** After getting my first comment that specified on of the numbers represented the liters, I deleted that pic and added the pic of the bottom of the stein.

The 1/4 l means it holds a quarter of a liter. No idea what the other number is for. Does it say Germany or West Germany on the bottom? And absolutely no other markings on the bottom? Most, if not all, of the better quality manufacturers put their stamp on the bottom. Are there any markings inside the lid? Can you tell if the lid is aluminum or pewter?

      Hi Jonima,
Thanks for your post. I just added the pic of the bottom of the beer stein. I don't know what the lid is made out of, but the inside is a lighter metal color than the outside.

Hi Susan! From the incised Germany mark, it's a safe bet it's pre WW II. Have you looked very closely (with a loupe or magnifying glass) around the rim of the lid, under the lid and under the thumb lever? Some of those marks are pretty tricky to find! Of course, it's hard to tell from the picture, but the lid looks like pewter to me. I have an older one with a pewter lid and it's darker on top, I'm guessing from oxidation. I hope someone can give you more information and maybe even recognizes your stein. Thanks for the showing your piece! :-)
