The Pabst Brewing Company was the first of the great Milwaukee brewers. Quality, pride, tradition, and hops were the ingredients in the legacy left by German immigrant Jacob Best Sr., (left) who established the brewery in 1844.
Under the guidance of his son Phillip Best (middle left ) and Phillip’s son-in-law, Captain Frederick Pabst (lower left), a small local producer became America’s largest brewer from the late 1800s until 1946.
With the closing of the brewery in 1996 came the opening of opportunity. After many years of blood, sweat, and beers, the “best use” of these buildings has fermented into Best Place at the historic Pabst Brewery taking its name from the founders, Jacob Best and Phillip Best and its spirit from the Captain, Frederick Pabst.
After the Pabst Brewery closed in Milwaukee in December 1996, it sat empty until 2001. It was at that time that Jim Haertel received his accepted offer to purchase the Pabst Brewery on September 11, 2001. Great care has been taken to ensure that Blue Ribbon Hall, The Captain’s Courtyard, The Guest Center, The King’s Courtyard, and the original Gift Shop have all been restored to their original glory. Since the first phone call was placed inquiring about buying the property, the brewery is once again full of life and laughter as "Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery" and is once again open and ready to welcome you.
Captain Federicks home is now a Tourist site as well and welcomes tours and has some amazing antiques in it .

wheres Lenny & Sqiggy gonna stay? Oh yea, they moved to California.
Im VERY glad to see that not all of your historical sites have been bull-dozed, like alot of ours have.
They live with Laverne and Shirley Mikie :-) Lots of the building is gone . It was a historical place I think but I guess Milwaukee thought something else . It was a great place to work back in the day . It employed many workers but I think the union driving up wages and benefits caused them to close door . It was just like a walk out people all let go on same day and lockers were not emptied lots of artifacts left in building . It was weird how it happened overnight .
thats sad, Mani, hurry up & click on my post, maybe if theres a comm. "they" wont pull the post like they did an hour or so ago.
to late, they have already deleated the post (C.W.) left a window that said to go to the front page?? Tell everyone "sorry" but i guess C.W. does'nt want anyone to have any fun on this site. Its really PISSING me off the more i think about it. I would hate to lose the great friends ive met here, but i dont much care to be cencored like this, ill at least come back & see what you've said. Love Mikie
I barely saw it and it was gone . I thought Bob Dylan and Glen Campbell and never got to last one . Anyway I did not want to win anything I had fun playing trivia :-( I guess it really does not met guidelines to CW and could confuse a new person. We can always start a Music trivia site I just don't know how to do that . Don't be discouraged Mikie we want you here on CW your sense of humor is priceless and you are liked by everyone :-)))))))))))))))) My email addy is under my bio
eye4 Mikie's trivia post was deleted he put up this afternoon . His , mine or any others were asked to be removed as they don't meet guidelines for CW . Since it is a show and tell it would confuse new faces to site . It was fun though :-)
You were born by brewery LOL Bellin do you remember the heavy yeast smell when you entered Milwaukee ?
Thank you vetraio50 always happy to see you :-)
Thank you Scandi :-) X
"shemeal, shemial, hossenpeper corperated!" Is that really what they said??? REALLY!!! Wonder if Sqiggy still has enough hair to make that little curly thing he used to have goin on with his hair???
I remember the yeast smell.... it was awful... kinda strangely miss it though.
I think that stuff made you get drunk it was so strong Bluecama ! :-)
Yep Walksoft I think sqiggy's hair was one of a kind LOL . I loved that show :-)
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
Schemeel, schlemazel, hasenfeffer incorporated.
We're gonna do it!
Give us any chance, we'll take it.
Read us any rule, we'll break it.
We're gonna make our dreams come true.
Doin' it our way.
Nothin's gonna turn us back now,
Straight ahead and on the track now.
We're gonna make our dreams come true,
Doin' it our way.
There is nothing we won't try,
Never heard the word impossible.
This time there's no stopping us.
We're gonna do it.
I stand corrected,so, what DOES "schemeel, schlemazel, hasenfeffer incorperated" mean??? Tell me it has something to do with Sqiggy starting a brewery with Lenny.
Mikie I think it means they made up some words :-) I just saw laverene and Shirley yesterday and thought of you when Sqiggy was on I couldn't get past his hair LOL I happened upon the show by accident and had not seen it in a long time .
Bellin I bet that we inhaled enough fermented yeast to get drunk :-)
Thank you Amphora :-)
Great photo!...:-)
Not sure about the spelling but Schlameel and Schlamagel sound like they could be German-Yiddish in origin. Hasenpfeffer Inc. is definitely a play on German. I remember the words being used back in ancient times when I was very young maybe by girls jumping rope on the side walks in the early 50's. Sounds like we have enough old Milwaukeeans on this site to form a Cream City Chapter!
Thank you inky !!!!!!!!! :-)
Hi Militarist , Thanks for clearing up the beginning of laverene and Shirley's Song
Of coarse Milwaukee had mainly German imigrants due to the farm land in WI
There are a few of us on CW close to Milwaukee :-) We could start a group and re create Laverne and Shirley :-) Sean you wanna be sqiggy or Lenny ? :-) Me and Amber could be the girls . Thank you for stopping militarist I appreciate it !
