a recent find is this childs singer sewing machine in great condition made in the usa,cheers paul.tasmania.

    Singer 20 - working cast iron chain stitch machine, but definitely sold as childs toy. You can get a rough date by searching with the model number and looking at the number and shape of the spokes in the hand wheel, and whether or not the thread path is numbered. Needles can be obtained online. Did it come with the original box?

    it's ok eye4beauty - in the later Singer 20 manuals they do suggest that ladies could have one for travel, for emergency repairs, although the stitch they make isn't quite the same as a lockstitch machine :)

    no box,i cant find any serial numbers on it,not sure how old it is.paul.

    Hi Paul,
    No they don't have serial numbers. The dating range is based on the shape of the balance wheel. The earliest models had a plain '+' for spokes in the wheel, and no felt base. there's a nice web page here
