i LOVE the first painting. it's an unsigned guache and watercolor. it was in a nice frame which had a lot of water damage, but the painting itself is free of damage - which i couldn't believe because the glass was so filthy. The second and third pics - is this japanese or chinese? any clue on the signature?
I'd love to find some info on these and other items i'll post over the next few days. thanks!!
what do i put art / paintings under? i don't know the era these are from, so...

I'd say Japanese, both and the first one reminds me of the Roman mosaics of Constantinople.
i think that the first one - the romanesque one is stunning. it shows tremendous skill in the brushwork and the overall affect is wonderful!
The other place you find those mosaics is in Ravenna in Italy. The image reminds me of the portrait of Justinian I (Flavius Petrus Sabbatius Iustinianus Augustus) in the church of San Vitale in Ravenna.

You got it vetraio50! i started to google byzantine male portraits, but didn't have time to get too far. great work! now to find out who painted it... i like the person in the painting more than in the mosaic, personally...
