"Random Primer" very nice, copyright 1885, published in 1899 St Louis, Mo.
I have my 2 old German language class books posted, I wonder how early back then they studied German in school? In the 1970's, we weren't offered languages til high school but I knew some curse words way prior to that since my mom was German.
Do you suppose these books were used to teach offspring their native language after immigrants arrived in the U.S.?
The 2 German language books I have were used by relatives in Northern Indiana, also immigrants from Germany in the mid to late 1800's by the sons, I guess my grand uncles (the boys names were Hans & Adolph).
I assumed they were schoolbooks (mid or high school German language class)since they were packed with all the old elementary and middle-school books and the books are dated 1896 and 1906 which meant they had been here for some time already. They also could be from Sunday school language classes for German immigrants (I notice yours is by a reverend). But I also have the circa 1860's childrens prayer book (great-great grandmother) which is Czechoslovakian?? All my relatives have passed on so I am trying to figure it out by books and pictures.
