This is an early 2 over 3 dresser made around 1840 in Salem NC. This piece has been attributed to Karsten Petersen (1776-1857), master cabinet maker in Salem. This piece has Petersen all over it. From the turned Moravian legs, to the saw blade dove tails, Petersen had to have made this piece. Also, if that isn't good enough, upon my closer inspection, there are "P"s on the back of all the drawers (See the second picture but they are very light and hard to see). This is a beautiful early southern piece. The last example like this brought over 4,000.00 at auction. (The little chest on top was also made by Petersen. See my other post).

I have been researching Karsten Petersen furniture for several years and I am working on exhibit of his pieces. I would love to see this piece in person to examine it closely. If you are willing for me to do so, please call me at 336-721-7349. Thank you!
