I rescued this from neighbours trash. I've done some research and it is a WWII footlocker. The newspaper on the inside doesn't have a year on it, but it does have March listed on a headline. One article is headlined "Invade Austria" and goes on about the Soviet high command had invaded Austria, gateway to Hitler's southern mountain fortress. The Russians swept into Burgenland province and occupied several villages, and called on the Austrian Freedom Front to rise in arms...
The metal tag on the lid of the truck is "American Hardware Company, Inc. Contract W199-Q.M.1769D September 27, 1939 Spec. No. 23-79C Stock No. 26 L - 25A (not sure about the 25A. Could be 254) Chicago Q.M. Depot"

I think you have most of the information you need -- it is rare to have a label on the trunk so you know who made it, and what year it was made. What leads you to believe it was a WW2 footlocker specifically? It is a typical standard storage trunk for its time, and there would have been many manufactures making them. What else would you like to know about it?
