Another exciting find. Wonderful, old example of a 42" Carleton Canoe Co. factory display model (aka 'salesman's sample') dating to about 1910-15. This piece languished for many years behind a false wall in a building on Staten Island, NYC, only to be discovered when a new owner decided to renovate. What a delightful surprise! He enjoyed it for a number of years, then allowed me to purchase it recently.
It has survived mostly intact, but did receive some damage from an object falling upon it a long time ago, prior to being stored away behind the wall and forgotten about. Two seats and a thwart were broken and lost, along with a slight crack in a rib or two - all modest damage that can be repaired by a careful professional restorer. In a few months, I hope to have that work done and the model looking once again as it did when it left the factory.
