I found this beautiful work of art at a thrift store in Tuscaloosa just yesterday. When I saw him my heart started beating really fast and when I saw the price tag I almost fainted...$24.92...I put him in my buggy very carefully. I had people walking up offering me money to let them have him. I knew that I had something great but I didnt know just how great. While cleaning him later that day I found the Daprato makers mark and it was then I knew what a great thing I had found. I mean it was great before but finding that makers mark was confirmation.
This icon takes me back to the fifties, five o'clock starts for Mass at six each morning, first communion, feast days, alcoves, the colours, stained glass and these Italianate figures by Daprato Rigali marketed here in Australia by Pellegrini.
