This is a large tin model, about 12" long, made in the late 1960's or early 1970's by Bandai. I would say it's loosely based on the 1966 Lotus Ford Indy car. Well bought at $12 on ebay! All it needed was a serious cleaning and a minor repair on a loose ground wire on the motor. I was happily surprised to find near flawless paint under a lot of grime. It works beautifully, with "bump and go" action. It drives forward until it hits an object, goes into reverse and steers either left or right, until it hits an object, then goes back into forward and drives straight. It's quite loud!

I made a custom set of decals for this car to emulate the Jim Clark No. 19 Indy Car from 1966. Although it's not original to the toy, it can be "un-done" simply by removing them. One thing about these toys that always bothered me when I was a kid, were the cheap stickers, that to me, ruined an otherwise good model of a race car. So rather than make a replacement set of the original stickers (which would have been far easier!), I opted to make these realistic markings. Original? No. But, I think it's an improvement. Whether or not it hurts the collectible value could be debated, but it's just staying in my personal collection anyway. :)
