I believe this is a World War 2 shield and prayer book....with the name of officer joseph sartorio...u.s. army...dont know much else but if anyone has more info let me know...thanks

    You are correct-- it is WW2 era.

    These were a popular gift to soldiers during the war-- how could a loved one not spend the few dollars to provide this for their departing soldier!

    Your guy was a PFC, Private First Class and not an officer.

    Wow thank you so much for the information...i.did find out he passed away in 1989 and was buried in egg harbor city cemetery......thank you so much scottvez...

    The web makes research so much easier!

    I remember the days of National Archive requests (3- 4 month turn around) in order to get information about Civil War soldiers. Now it is available in seconds.
