i picked this up at a yard sale near my house for $10 last year and stuck it in the warehouse until the other day when i saw a repro of it from the 1970s. the quality of the repro was horrible and i decided to give this a second look and i am pretty certain that this is an original from 1893. It has excellent quality printing - looks like quality victorian prints i've seen. it's printed on very thick poster stock and has been kept rolled up, but is in otherwise excellent condition. now i'm dying to know more about it. it's not exactly my style, but i think it may be very rare and collectible - being from the very beginning of this annual poster advertising scheme. it's pretty large - about 28" x 20". Please let me know how i can find out more! there's loads of repro stuff out there, and very little about orignal ones from that time-period. thanks!
I collect 1890's advertising posters, and this looks right to me. I appears to have a few condition issues (creases and scuff marks). Should get a linen backing to conserve it. Nice item.
thank you rocker-sd. that's great info. the creases are very minimal overall. doesn't appear to be any loss of pigments anywhere. considering the fact that i just tossed it into my warehouse without giving it any thought whatsoever, i think that this is miraculous!
i imagine that i would contact a paper art conservationist [?] to put it on linen and flatten it out? meanwhile, i have some nice period frames i am going to use for displaying it. i'll be cutting the frame to fit it, and then use proper acid-free backing and maybe a matte, but probably not. any other suggestions? resources?

i found a very nice frame for it and i'm taking it to my framer later today to see what we can do for now. when i find someone to mount it on linen, i'll do that, but for now, i think just an acid-free backing and matte is what it will get.
thanks so much robinhawaii. i've spent long hours looking for comp prices so i can figure out whether to have it conserved properly or just frame it myself. i have a perfect [scratch] PERFECT 1893 frame for it, but it'll cost me to have it conserved, so i want to make sure that it is worth it. i thought i'd find some similar ones on liveauctioneers, but have come up w/ zip so far.

i just added some photos of this poster framed. i framed it in one of the beautiful old frames i found last summer. i'm giving it to one of my sister's for christmas. merry christmas everybody!
