August 1 would have been Jerry Garcia's 70th birthday. To mark the occasion, the SF Giants held Jerry Garcia Night for a home game against the Mets.
I went (the Giants lost), and bought one of the tickets that got me a Garcia bobblehead, which I would post here but it's really kind of lame.
Not lame is this poster by Chris Shaw for a band called Moonalice, who played a private party for high-rollers before the game (proceeds benefited the Dead's charitable Rex Foundation). They also played a few tunes before the game from the top of the visiting-team dugout. The high rollers got this offset poster (I tried valiantly too mooch one, but failed), and then Moonalice released a few more last Sunday. They sold out pretty quickly, but I snagged one for $20.
The thing I like most about this poster is how Shaw distressed and rounded the edges, so that it looks like an old baseball card. It gives the poster a sense of depth and dimension, and the texture makes the card look a bit worn around the edges. Literally.
By the way, the Moonalice logo on Garcia's baseball cap is by David Singer.
