We found this in our 1897 farmhouse and don't have a clue as to what it is. It measures 14" across and is 5" at the point. It's very heavy at 5.6 lbs. We thought it might be a ceiling light shade but it seems too big and heavy and not quite deep enough. Also there are no holes for anything to pass through to hold it up. I'd really appreciate any ideas as to what it is. Thanks for taking a look!

It is possibly a ceiling lamp shade. I was just flipping thru one of my 1950 magazines and there is an ad for "Lightolier" which shows a ceiling lamp with the shade held by clamps around the diameter, no hole in the center.

That's what my husband keeps telling me too. It's just so darn heavy. It's hard to imagine it hanging from the ceiling. I'll see if I can find any pics like that. Thanks a bunch for the tip!

Look up Vintage Lightolier Ceiling Lamps - I did not see your specific shade but there are similar ones which show the clamping type as I mentioned. Ceiling lamps are usually hung between studs so weight is not really an issue. Imagine how much a chandelier weighs!
