I purchased this vase at a thrift shop to put a plant in. I did not realize it was a Van Briggle until I got it home and cleaned it up. I have been unable to identify the pattern. If anyone knows what the name of the pattern is, and when it was made, please let me know.
it is 5 inches high, 4.5 inches in diameter at the bottom and 3.75 in diameter at the top.

Wow, what a find. That is design number 726. I don't think Van Briggle had formal names for their designs but according to the book A Collector's Guide to Van Briggle Pottery it was introduced in 1907/08 and is described as a covered jar with spade shaped leaves. Yours is missing it's lid, which is not uncommon. The bottom markings are typical for the period from late 1907 through early 1912. Van Briggle from this time period is highly collectible. Even without the lid this jar should easily fetch $400-$600 dollars at auction if it is in perfect condition.

You are welcome. Unfortunately you would probably never find a lid. I wouldn't even bother trying. It would not be marked so if someone had one they wouldn't know it was Van Briggle unless they had the jar and broke it and even then the glaze probably wouldn't match. I would just enjoy it as is.
Thanks again Roy. I guess I won't put a plant in it now. How do you suggest I clean it? I usually put my thrift shop finds in the dishwasher but didn't with this piece when I realized it was a Van Briggle and old.
I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher. Lay a towel in the bottom of the sink (in case you drop it) then just wash it with warm soapy water and a wash cloth.
